The Swedish American Center has open the new exhibit on the renowned Swedish American Line, SAL. It will be a historical document of the ships’ activities, telling the story of the many journeys and the experiences of both employees and passengers. The Swedish American Line is the commemorative exhibit for The Swedish American Center’s 50th anniversary.

The exhibit offers a memorable glimpse of the fascinating onboard ambience. It is a tour that takes us through the ship and over the Atlantic all at once. Stepping onto the gangplank in Gothenburg, we are boarding the ship as emigrants and will be served many new impressions and emigrant stories before arriving at the destination in New York. On the ship, we are treated to the exquisite design, the travel comfort and the advanced technology.

Most of the items in the exhibit appear courtesy of private collector Torsten Torstensson, who has accumulated one of the most impressive SAL collections in the world. We are very grateful and happy to display his exclusive items as part of our SAL exhibit.

The exhibit will be open for a year with daily displays during the summer.
